Two examples of
quality outcomes through implementation of URA Rx signature programs:
Oral Cancer Therapy
Patients on oral chemotherapy were experiencing problems
with adherence. The side effects caused patients to stop taking their
medication. The patients did not restart medication until their next
scheduled office visit resulting in suboptimal dosing.
A system was needed to promote increased adherence and decrease dose
URA Rx designed a structured outbound nurse interventions
program for this product. The program provided patients with counseling
and support before side effects emerged! URA Rx nurse support
then continued through ongoing treatment cycles. Patients were also
encouraged to work with their healthcare provider to manage side effects
as needed. The program also included educational support and adverse
event reporting. HIPAA-compliant data was available to the brand team on
an ongoing basis.
Patients completed therapeutic cycles increased
136% and grade 3/4 side effects decreased by 40%
as documented in
ONS Abstract #2728, published in the Oncology Nursing Forums, May
Patients on an IV chemotherapy were increasingly
non-adherence through an extended course of therapy. Side effeects
caused patients to stop their medication. Mental and physical experience
of side effects continued at home. Missed cycles results in sub-optimal
dosing. A system was needed to provide ongoing patient support between
clinic visits to promote increased adherence and decrease dose delays.
URA Rx designed an intensive nurse intervention program
with both outbound and inbound components. The program provided patients
with counseling and support pre- and post-infusion.

Data was collected on a total of 617 patients enrolled in
the URA Rx patient support program. The average number of cycles
completed by patients enrolled in the URA Rx progrm was nearly twice the
number in the control group: 3.8 cycles versus 2 cycles in the control
group. Completed therapeutic cycles increased 90%.
